spare clutch cable

Had a similar experience once with a guy I'd left my points cam with, to be ground down to allow Loctite permanent fitment of electronic trigger from a GS Suzuki. 6 weeks on and still sitting exactly where i'd left it on his bench. Picked it up and walked out. He chased me to the car and had a go at me with some flimsy excuse for never doing it. took it another local joint - done the next day.
 
same happened to me with a large cardboard box of body parts to repaint for a Vee Max, he said two weeks, and I went back after two plus weeks and the box was in the same place as dropped by me, and a coke can and a fag packet added, two more weeks and I returned to find, more cans fag packets, crisps, wire off cuts etc in the box. The cars in the shop were changing all the time, but my box didn't move, I retrieved the box and left, I had known his dad for decades and he was known locally as a superb painter and finisher, two years later he was sacked after repeated warnings from dad about his behavior, he had arrived for work in a sorry state, had put a car into the paint booth, fallen asleep at the wheel with the engine running and the booth doors open, the gas heaters running flat out, he had both puked in the car and shit himself badly, he was unaware of this until roused, the customers car was in a very bad way (cloth interior) he was hospitalized for three days, and not allowed back to the paint shop , you guessed it, full on out of control class"A's" and alcohol, lager cans in the car at 9am! he now has no known abode, does a bit of cash work in various paint shops and when seen, usually walking, looks like an unwashed, dirty clothed tramp, his employment is getting less and less and his ability to sleep under a roof much the same, it can go two ways. a highly skilled and talented 40 year old.

Yes I guess with a bit of practice you can almost use the starter/kill switch as a substitute for a clutch,at least when stuck in start/stop traffic,not so bad once actually on the move.(This is what modern quickshifters more or less do isn`t it?).
Once on a T160 Trident I had a clutch problem,not the cable but the whole thing (single plate diaphram by Borg and Beck I think) rotating freely on the splined hub it was supposed to engage with.
Not greased on assembly by NVT apparently.
Left it by the side of the road in Bristol and walked 2 miles home,bumped into a mate who got a tow rope out of the back of his dad`s Ford Consul (this was 1977).
We then rode back to the T160 on his CB550K,attached the tow rope to the Hondas carrier and wrapped it around the Tridents fork legs and he towed me home through the Bristol traffic.
It was hilarious and terrifying at the same time.
Going in a straight line was ok but every time we came to a bend he would go one way and I would go the other.......
BTW Sad to see that Jim Lindsay passed away recently,I remenber the Bike magazine article covering a Factory trip by him.

Extremely saddened by the news about Jim Lindsay.
I'd got back in touch with him in 2020. We had hoped to have some sort of reunion of the 'Hic, Mine's a Triple' gang to celebrate the Fortieth Anniversay, of our trip:

"In the early hours of a wet Saturday morning, 28th June 1980, forty years ago, a disparate band of Laverda Owners assembled on Dover Docks on their way to the Laverda Factory in Breganze:
Phil and Neil Todd, Alan Bell and Angela, Dennis Dell, Adrian O’Meara and Karen, Hilary and me, joined by the redoubtable Jim Lindsay, who wrote the trip up for Bike Magazine.
The rest, as they say, is history.
I had hoped, in a pre-Covid world, that we might have taken a tilt at a 40th Anniversary Re-Union trip, but the fates have conspired against that, so those of us, still extant, might raise a glass in tribute.

Maybe a 50th Anniversary trip to Breganze might be a great idea?"

JJ cables nine days from my door back to my door, there must have at least been two overnight stops in the post, so ....cables arrived, and all is great, I paid nothing in advance, a cheque was requested in the package (and sent pronto), I had said in my note to them that they should phone when ready and I will divulge my credit card details, I asked for standard old fashioned cables no "easy slider, slinky slider, easy pull, XYZ lined etc and got exactly that, very happy bunny, I will be going there again for definite.

Whilst not the easiest place to find JJ Cables are well worth a visit.
