Weather where you are?

It's statistics I think. I saw people are complaining about Wayvinhoe Dam releasing water and exacerbating the flooding in Brisbane, but looking at the Dam inflows they went from 60% full to an insane 180% capacity in 3 days.

It was claimed in the report about the ´74 floods that untimely release of water from Wivenhoe was largely responsible. I can't imagine water at 180% above the dam, not sure what that means. This big low is not leaving any time soon it seems. I remember one cyclone that crossed the coast near Cape York, became a deep low pressure rain depression and slowly slid down the length of Australia just west of the great divide flooding everything along the way. I followed it on the synoptic charts, it took about a month before it drifted out to sea south off NSW south coast. This one is a cracker as well. Stay safe guys and get onto high ground.

I don't reckon the owners of the property were laughing when the flood waters were that high. The Queensland and New South Wales floods are a full scale disaster that's going on right now.
Can gauge the height of the water by the colour of the trees. Just got the lower leaves of the plant up by the house and no brown stain on the blue house, looks to be about floor level. Very lucky if so.

We have had a solid 2 weeks of heavy rain in Sydney saturating the place, if that East Coast Low dropped anything like the predicted 100 to 200mm it's going to be really bad. Hopely it just moves East and away to New Zealand and not the predicted south down the coast, Wollongong doesn't do well with this kind of rain. The last time it cut all roads and rail down there for weeks with major landslides.

I just read the weather report for my suburb, the prediction is tomorrow 90% chance of 80mm and the next 2 days after that 90% chance of 50mm each, that's just crazy.

To be clear, I wasn't making light of the weather disaster or its effects but, since the quad bike hanging from the wire appears to be photoshopped in, the image had the hallmarks of a humourous meme.

The dark humour POV can make it easier to deal with. Cant verify the pic sent by a local. Not that it matters, but yes at some locations flooding covering houses. Raging torrents.

This explains how you get above 100% capacity in this Dam, it's a balancing act between inflows, capacity and timing outflows allowing for water coming down the system in floods and tides coming up the system that they try hard to get right.Try doing that when you suddenly get insane 3 days of rain.

In Lismore in 1954 they had a flood level of 12.4m - it was assumed that was the once in a millenium event - two days ago it hit 14.4m ... picture it: 2m ABOVE a previous highest recorded flood level. I'm wondering whether they may finally decide it's simply unfeasible with our altered climate to persevere with Lismore where it now stands. If you buy house insurance, you pay for the rebuild no matter where you live.

A friend told me the early settlers wanted the town a few km away on higher ground but the cedar cutters insisted it went where it is so they'd have easy access to the river that they used to transport their timber down to the coast at Ballina.

Even in Melbourne, 2000+km from Brisbane , we're getting sub-tropical humidity and weather. It's a massive weather system. They call it a 'rain bomb'. But everything's cool - there's no change in the climate - these unusual weather events happen from time to time :eek::eek::eek::eek:. The once in a 100 year flood in Brisbane in 2011 reoccurred after 11 years.

But why worry about silly things like the weather when there are countries to invade and empires to build ...
