Well my Laverda friends, that is how I grew up, maybe slightly better but not much. The thing is we were happy, we didn't know we were poor, we were loved and fed and played outside all day.
There were 8 people and more at times living in one of those terraces, no inside toilet, no bathroom, coal cellar leaky roof and yes ice on the inside of the windows. It was squalid.
The route out of there was education, the 11 plus as they called it and Grammar school. Sadly a route unavailable today.
I am truly glad I was born into that life, it made me what I am.
