LAVERDA 650/750 Prototype photos 2

Any idea what year that would have been?

I think I'll post a 'Wanted' for some of those parts - must be hundreds available on FleeBay :ROFLMAO:
Prototype was first shown at Earls Court in 1967. At least another year of development before production commenced. The GT offically made its debut 1969, production must have started around September '68.

Great pics Gert. Introduction of the first 650 prototype at Earls Court was in 1966. Then in 1967 a first 750 prototype was built. Disregarding the homologation bikes that were built in May of 68, production of the 650-750s commenced mid 1968, but was a slow start.

Apparently 2 x 650’s & 2x 750’s were entered in the ‘68 Giro d’Italia- were they prototypes I wonder ?

I used to see those black and white pics in magazines and think sometime in the dim, distant dark ages. Nowhere near as old as I thought they were back when I was a teenager in the early 1970s. Just how time passes. 10 years as a teenager complared to 50 years as a late 60-year-old.

As far as I know, the preproduction/homologation machines that left the factory had forks with gaiters instead of the shrouded ones that followed and which to my knowledge were early production bikes.
The bikes in the picture were the very first 750s to come to Holland.

Sometimes memories can become clouded after such a long period of time, but assuming the book to be correct then it says the Giro was held 28th April - 5th May 1968 so surely the bikes used had to be built before the homologation bikes, according to you Marnix, in May 68?

You’re probably right Andy, but if I would have sent out the homologation bikes, I would have sent them with shrouded forks and let the Giro riders have machines with gaiters.. 😉

Gert, these Giro Grimeca’s seem bigger than the standard ones, yes.

... some more photos from a later 650/750 prototype.
Ciao, Gert

Stunning photos Gert !

Have they been enhanced, like AI ?, or are they reproductions/copies of the original prints ?
The quality of the details is really impressive.

Is it a reflection, or are there scratches on the bottom of the crash bars ?

Thanks
Stéphane
