So having recently purchased this 1974 3c as a project, I was rather amused to see the novel duplex chain and sp20260616_095646.jpgrocket set up

As far as I'm aware Paul it was an Italian import
Those double chains and sprockets were a fad in the 70s, notably in France and Italy. Several endurance racers had them when more was better, very much like the triplex primary chains on our big Laverdas. The spaceframe triples had them.
JPX in France, Eric Offenstadt's company made duplex kits with nylon sprockets.

It looks kinda of interesting and would definitely be a talking point, but I think if I decide to restore it a conventional chain and sprocket kit would be better.

Have to say I sorted a supersprox special (530) + smaller head fixing bolts + lock wire as an alternative to the standard solution

The Benelli 900 SEI came from the factory with a duplex rear chain. Perhaps where you rear sprocket came from? What does the front sprocket look like? I would not think there is enough room under the cover for a duplex????

The factory space frame triples were equipped with duplex drive chains. Normal, cut-down SFC-style sprocket cover.

I have a Benelli 6 duplex sprocket/chain set in good condition in search of a new home, in case somebody needs it...

I have a Benelli 900 Sei. It had the original duplex chain on when I bought it. It had only done about 9000km so the chain and sprockets were still pretty good, but I took the duplex drive off and fitted a 530 setup. I kept the duplex stuff in case some future owner wants to restore the bike to original.

Piet, if you're giving the duplex front sprocket away I'll take it off your hands to keep as a spare. But as I'm never likely to use it myself, I'm not so keen as to part with any money beyond the cost of postage. I won't be disappointed if a more needy or deserving recipient raises their hand.
