Hi guys! does any one have any service sheets for the 180' 1200 starter motor parts explosion etc. thanks Andy.

If you need that sort of info, go to Andy Wagners Laverda Paradies.
The factory parts lists are on there.

For your starter:

Good one Pau! thanks....
any one got any electrical testing tips....  :D

Hi Paul Its old and seems to lack power turns off the bike but speed varies and usually needs a manual twist to get going. Is it a gonner?

HI ANDY, No its not a gonner  as you can strip ,clean and you can still get new brush's if there needed.
regards andy

A few years ago I needed to have a Bosch starter (off a Guzzi) tested. Went to a couple of places and they threw there hands up in horror; "We can't test that, it's Bosch! We don't have the equipment". I was directed to a crusty old timer; he clamps the starter on the bench, cables it up to a 12V battery so it spins over and then jams a broom handle into the drive gear. Slivers of broom handle fly all over the place! "Nothing wrong with that starter" he grunts. And he was right.

I used to know an electric motor place in Brixton and they where excellent completely non bias. But I live in Ireland now so he's a bit far. I stripped it a while back and it was looking ok but I will do the field coil test on it I think I and try and get behind them and give them a good clean.

Here is a starter rebuild similar to a Lav starter  :P  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EHQJDhxZc0

Thats the same test a crusty old auto sparky did to mine, only he rubbed it on a softwood column next to his bench.

Commutator. Try pulling it apart, taking note of the shims on either end of the armature, and give everything a good clean. Support the armature and give the commutator a bit of a rub with fine wet and dry or crocus paper, ensuring that the mica insulators between the segments remain recessed. On re-assembly use a wire hook to pull back the brush springs as it's a pita otherwise.
