17"

Can't see the point of 17 inchers on an RGS when the 18 inch GSXR conversion is relatively cheap and easy and looks right.  Some may say tyre choice, but there are enough 18 inch radials (and crossplies, but why would you?) with more grip than these old bangers will ever need.

When I was running a 55 aspect rear tyre, thats on an 18,it raised the revs by a surprising 1000rpms for the same speed.Thats as accurate as usual Laverda instruments are.And if you are competing with other Laverdas changing gearing to compensate with knock off a measurable amount of acceleration, not withstanding engine power differences between bikes. To me that was a no win argument. Not that I am saying I actually engage in competing with other Laverdas, but put 2 together and it soon turns into a well race is to strong a word.Going to a 17 I would expect an even more prononced outcome. Not so much with Rob,his thing has plenty of punch

I thought Rob had tried 17" wheels on his Jota............

If they work on a Jota they should on a RGS.
My thoughts have often drifted to 17" wheels but then again I'm still OK with tyres on the 18" GSXR wheels.

Main issue with 17" wheels will be ground clearance as Keith say's.
Would need longer forks and shocks to claw back some space between expensive metal and tarmac.

steve, would you like to repost the pic in another format - can't view it!

Is there an alternator behind that beveled cover? My cover isn't worn that badly but it had to get beaten out so that rotating items on the inside don't hit...

Maybe he has a matching bevel on the bottom of the alternator rotor  :D

:D

I have 2 covers, this one has no space for rotor, the other cover has a moderate chamfer and the rotor fits but I changed those pesky M6 bolts for countersunk items and thinned out the steel chrome plated rotor hub.
Always fit this cover and remove rotor for trackdays...otherwise I'll be on the deck.

So Henry is that a no to the 17" wheels????????

I have found the GSXR wheel conversion to be a very good one, transforms the handling and there is currently a supply of descent tyres so grip no problem.
Think the RGS looks better with the wider tyre at the back.
