Any info on the 30th Anniversary much appreciated. For example:

Ian Falloon mentions that the gear change is swapped to the left but all the photos I can find show the right foot change. Hydraulic clutch is standard.

Engine tune: A11 with 8.5:1 I believe but apparently they had larger valves???? Is this one of the "problem" cylinder heads then?

Is it one of the 1200 model "dodgy" crank batch?

I think the (ugly) faring was special to the 30th and fitted as standard but were their any changes made for the Libyan police force batch? Some photos show a side stand?

Corte Cossa shocks in black as standard as far as I can tell

Thanks very much for any info, or maybe point me at the Forum subject if all this has been dealt with before...

gear change position depended on the original owners preference I believe, in those days could have been either left or right

30th had same size valves as the other models of the same era, valve sizes increased according to the year they were made
standard they had 38mm inlet and 35mm exhaust valves fitted
later models had larger inlet valves finishing at 40.5mm in the SFC 1000's and exhaust valve stayed at 35mm except for the 1980 heads that went to 36mm exhaust for some unknown reason
factory went back to 35mm exhaust in 1981 realizing probably that the exhaust valves were too large when compared to the inlet valve size
on our race engines we try and use a 75-80% inlet to exhaust ratio and thus we use 42mm inlets and 33mm exhaust valves for 78.5%, 30th edition has a 92% ratio which is far from ideal

would need to know the engine number to say if it has a dodgy crank or not, have rebuilt a couple of 30th edition engines and two of them still had the ball bearing mains so they are still out there
both bikes were low mileage in their mid 20,000 klm mark and bearings were intact still

regarding the 1200 anniversary 30th bikes.

standard gear change was right hand side, unless you bought a kit as an extra, or it went to USA ex factory.

had standard head set up valves an all. (1200TS had the "big valve" Jota head)

was first Laverda to have hydraulic clutch,

cams were A11

pistons were flat top Mondial @ 7.9:1

all  are in the dodgy crank zone (two dots by the engine number is SUPPOSED to tell you that it has been changed for roller centre mains

that fairing was only fitted to the 30th.

1000/1200 Libyan police bikes were few and far between, maybe have only been  three and built to suit the order, they might have even be "for evaluation" purposes only.

Black shocks and black almost everything else, paint was black and rubbery and hid horrendous casting finish underneath, even engine bolts were black, pin striping was done with a tar brush gold paint was everywhere and looked like the items were "dipped"

I too rebuilt an Anni form centre balls to centre rollers in 2011, amazing that they still appear having missed the re-call programme 30 + years later!

you are not thinking about buying the hugely overpriced NLM Anni, are you, could be worth 50% of the asking price, maybe less, they have been punting it for years, maybe even four!

Thanks very much. Engine number 2281.  18,000 miles, indicated.

Errr,,, I was!

:-(

Australian spec 1200s came with LH gear change. I should know, I raced the first model (77 or 78??) in the Perth Castrol 4 Hour for the WA concessionaire and the friggin linkage broke after 3 hours!! Finished the race in 3rd ... like a single speed track bicycle!!

Nothing stopping you from swapping back to RH gear, but no chance of that with a proddy racer.

Thanks. No dots by the engine number. Simply 1200*2281* Originally registered in Italy

I'm thinking the dots by the engine number was a UK thing.
All the affected triples that I saw in Spain had never been repaired.
Maybe a similar thing across other countries?
So if it was an import to the UK then you can't tell one way or the other.

We never did that "dot thing" - at Motodd - can,t recall the factory mechanics doing it when they came to our premises either. maybe a "Slaters" afterthought? - Certainly weren't "happy Anniversary 1200's! Can't imagine anyone considering paying anywhere near NLM's silly price for their one - but have to say it's had at least 3 happy anniversaries sitting unmolested at NLM  :D :D - regards - Phil

The seat cover are different ,black grabrail horns handlebar lightholders indicators chainguard  and fuelcap and mine are lh gear shifted and using 7c cams.
Love to ride it.

ah yes but.......... has he also got 7/8 personally signed thank you letters from Massimo and 7/8 gold medallions as well?
that is what the first owner should have got with every Anni sold, but as we all now know the dealers did not always do what was asked of them by the factory, such as single and dual seats supplied with new SF's etc

How many of these annies were actually made?
I have heard the original plan was to make 30 bikes and 3 of them (10%) were originally sold to Finland.

I'm wondering did the factory planned to make 40th model (or something else?). There is some
black pickup covers available for 120 degree engines in unopened Laverda packages.

The same cover is shared with the 500, and the Atlas, which has a black engine.

Not exactly... want a bit of rivet counting?? :D

The 500 and its derivants had a slightly different cover than the triples.  On the MkII/120 engine, the primary cover has a fixing screw on the circumference of the ignition cavity.  The ignition covers for these engines have a small blanking extension on the inside to close up the channel for the primary fixing screw.  The 500 covers don't have this.

The covers are interchangeable, but the 500 cover won't seal the MkII/120 ignition cavity completely.

Annis sold in Germany had stock 1200 engine internals.  No performance parts show in the parts books either, anything different in this regard is sure to have been done by the selling dealer.
