38mm Ceriani forks

Only case I have seen was John K,2 up riding to the NSW club Christmas party, got the call at 900pm at the party and 1/2 a dozen blokes went to pick it up with a trailer.Luckily minimum injury's to either.Going into a medium type 70kph corner just at the Sydney end of the Richmond RAAF airbase one of the fork legs snapped in half flush with the bottom of the lower tree.Very standard tidy bike not being ridden hard luckily at the time.Bike is back even tidier than before. To my eye it looked like there was a previous crack hidden up close to the tree.John had a fork oil leak for a while before this, maybe a hint to flexing. There is no saving a crash with this kind of failure. If it was a bigger problem bikes with big brakes would be xibiting problems. They arnt so to me its a one off thankfully.

Just for the record, they were Marzos, not Cerianis!! Never heard of Cerianis breaking either, except the time I stuffed my SF2 into the armco and the triple clamps snapped!!

JohnK's forks had been straightened and rechromed.  How bent they were, and how they were re-chromed/ground is the question.  One was sheared straight through and the other showed a significant crack, both just below the triple clamp.  My opinion is that it was an ill-advised attempt to save fork tubes that should have been scrapped.

Fork tubes randomly snapping off is certainly not a common fault!

A ham-fisted "mechanic" can easily crack the yokes, especially the top one, when tightening the pinch bolts... apart from that, never seen anything else other than bent stanchions.

Seeing how thin-walled the Ceriani stanchions are, I wouldn't attempt straightening them, would be extremely difficult getting them true.  On no account would I grind them straight!
