3c front fender bracket dimension.

I'm looking to salvage this front fender bracket for my 3C. DOP cut it and looks like opened up the mounting holes.

Thinking it can be saved if I build a fixture to hold it in the proper position for my welder to make it one piece again and fill in the mounting holes for me to redrill.

What I'm asking for is the dimension from the outer edge of the bracket (front to rear). Anyone have one kicking around without a fender attached who can make a measurement for me?

Thanks!

I think Chris is right. Allow for the width of a hacksaw blade and weld them back together. If you want confirmation, check it against the bolt spacing on the fork legs.

The holes look OK too. The holes should be around 10mm diameter (or 12mm? I don't remember) to accommodate a rubber grommet for vibration isolation. There's a little steel spacer in each grommet so you can tighten the bolts without squishing the grommets.

When I bought my Jota, the PO had bolted the bracket up solid to the forks, and it broke. Presumably a fatigue crack from vibration. After I welded it up, I reinstated the rubber grommet system using grommets from an auto-electrical shop and making the internal spacers on the lathe.

OK. Thanks all.

Using Paul's 57.3 measurement, the one side looks like Chris says, a hacksaw width away, the other side spacing looks like the cut has a wedge shaped removed.

Holes measure at 13mm?

Thanks again guys,

Wayne

Holes with 13mm diameter is probably right. My 10 or 12mm guess was just that, a guess. Now that I come to think of it, I have a vague recollection that I bought 1/2" grommets (for 1/2" dia panel holes). Perhaps my memory of 10mm comes from the grommet ID, which means the inner spacer would have a 2mm wall thickness.

The important dimension for the spacer that goes though the grommet is its length, too long and it doesn't take out any movement and too short and you crush the grommet to much and there not easy to reduce there length once made. You should know Cam as you made me a set, and I think I needed to shorten them by inserting them on a bolt and going at them with a hacksaw. Finding this length requires having the grommets, they vary in thickness and experimenting with what happens when you install them on the bike. Even the size of the washers has an effect on crush, the washers need to be as big as possible but on so big as to touch the other washers. Crazy complicated for such a simple thing. And BTW hex heads need a thinner spanner than Alan heads when tightening but both need the wheel off to allow fitting any connector and it will take more time to fit plus a wrestle to get the guard on and do up all 8 fixings, make sure it's on the correct way or it's all happening again if wrong. Loctite is a good idea as you cannot do these bolts up really tight and therefore they can come loose later. That's approx 10 years of experience learned in 30 seconds of reading, I wish I had known this when I did mine. Thanks for those spacers Cam.

It was a very long time back, probably more than 10 years. I know you offered, not sure you actually did though.
