3C Seat swap

Evening all,

I have to do something about the seat on my 3C (1974) as the foam is lumpy and not great to sit on.

I have always liked the look of the earlier non-bump stop seat. Is it possible to recondition the seat to the earlier configuration?

Are covers for both types readily available? How about the foam kits themselves?

I am assuming the bases for both seats are the same.

cheers

Julian

You would be better off doing a swop if you can.
Eldorado in Australia make replacement covers and will refurbish the seat. It's top quality work but comes at a price.
I dont remember the dualseat being any more comfortable than the hump seat as far as the rider is concerned.

Julian,

The bases of the standard and solo seat may differ, depending on whether the solo seat is an original Laverda item or an aftermarket copy.      The factory solo seat has a metal hump, so won't lend itself to using the foam base of the standard seat.    The aftermarket item may be easier to adapt.  Attached pictures show a standard metal base, the factory solo metal base, and an aftermarket fibreglass solo seat base.

I don't think that the standard foam base is available as a normal spares item, although Tony O'Conner may be able to provide one.    Otherwise you will either have to sculpt one, or make a mould of an existing good seat and cast the foam using liquid foam components.

Good luck!

Tom

Any vehicle upholsterer worth his salt will be able to supply and shape a new padding, usually in far better quality than what was used originally.  Had a new cushion and cover made for my RGS 3 years ago, cost all of ?150.  Can't do it yourself for less..

As in most other areas, there have been great advances made in foam technology over the past 30-odd years, why not take advantage?

Hi Tom

Its an original solo seat by the looks, with the metal hump. I would prefer to get a second seat so I can always swap back. Can you still buy the bases? Or should I look for a complete seat. A quick scan of the interwebs shows me this is a rare thing.
