500 starter clutch?

Re post of what I put in the race report:

Well got the bike back today and a very nice job he has done of the electrics.

http://www.electro34.co.uk/main/

New loom, with mesh outer, and all connections soldered.
All earths removed and taken back to the battery -ve with single cable.
New, none car, starter solenoid taking less power through the switch.
New regulator/rectifier
New smaller Motoblat
The original cable to the generator replaced.

Looks like with spikes of power from the gen the electrical system was getting up to 18v. That did for th battery and numerous starter switches.
One R/R was duff on the regulator side the other on the rectifier side so it wo uld start when it felt like it but when it got hot it showed different symptoms each time and confused t he he'll out of me!

A day and a half labour plus parts and VAT. A lot of money, more than I expected, but the thing should run and run now.

Roll on Lydden Hill in five weeks.

Robin  :o :'( :D :D

Sounds like you're sorted now. But I had a very similar problem a couple of years ago, motor very slow to turn over and difficult to start. I discovered in the end that the gasket fitted to the starter clutch cover was  too thin. This resulted on the starter gear spigot being pinched. Fitting the correct thicker gasket immediately sorted the problem. I had the started motor re-built before I discovered it though. Such is life!
