Maybe some of you Zan? aficionados could help me to identify a Ghost engine ?
Just to have an idea of the potentially future engine failures..

Frame/engine # is 1229
Belgium/Enzo import from 1997 but I suspect bike is anterior.

Bike is not in pristine condition and has some 19K km on the clock.
Engine is starting and running okay.
Some chassis and cosmetic problems easy to solve I guess.

Any advise welcome

Cheers,
St?phane

Hi Steph,

if there is a Oilglass on the Primary Cover it is the early (bad) Engine."1. Series"
You have, i see on the pitures, a Oilstick. That is the better one. "2.Series"
The first series engines blow up often in the past.

Yes Volki, oil dipstick indeed.  (bigthumb)

Can you/someone tell me more about the "2 series" engine's mods ?

Hi tephane,

the main problem of the 650 Engine is the oil!!
Use full synthetic oil (p.e. Motul 300V) and use the special oilfilter.
There is one from USA on the market. This one is the best i think. With this part you have the oil very fast in all places where it is importend (Cylinder Head/Camshaft).
I have one here (new) i can show/sell you.
The second thing is to put in a smaller sprocket in fromt in the Chainset.
Normal there is 16 theeth. Change it into 15 theeth. This part i have also here.
And very importend check the CO!!!
It hae to be between 3-3,5 Vol%. Many of the 650 runs to poor!!
If you have further questions call me (Volker.Scheil@gmx.de).
Cheers Volker

I am a very fresh beginner with this little twin engine.

Does someone know the improvements made on the engine from 1st to 2nd series ?

Cheers,
St?phane

so its the oil then Volker?
would you like to give me a warranty on my new/unstarted, in the box 650? if I use only your recommended oil and filter?

Hello St?phane,

Not sure if you are capable of reading german, but maybe google translator helps a bit on this very comprehensive page:

http://650.laverdaclub.ch/laverda/index.html

And don't get to scared, I know of at least 1 Laverda 650 that passed the 100.000km mark with the first engine.  ;)

(I did not say that it was unopened though...)
