75 GTL no spark

Ok. I'm stupid. I guess I have to take the tank off and lift it out. That's a PITA too but better than taking carbs off.

That's what I get for straying from Kawasaki triples. I can do those blindfolded. Of course, that doesn't count for much here.....

Wrong battery... can normally be removed from the side.

Wouldn't bother with the stock heavy lump anyway, 19-20Ah is plenty enough and frees up some room in the battery area.

Bloody 'ell, don't these bodges ever end??

I'd love to have an early Kawasaki Mach III in my fleet. I used to ride around on one in my youth. It was the first model with the most insane power band. White with the blue stripe and scalloped tank sides. It wasn't mine, it belonged to a mate who'd lost his licence for a while. I was 'looking after' it for him in the meantime so he wouldn't be tempted to ride it. Was a real hoon machine. It could be a scary thing on occasions but I loved it.

As for the battery. It must be a huge thing if it won't come out sideways. The battery box was designed for 1970s wet cell lead acid battery technology. We've moved on a bit since then.

I can only echo Piet's advice. Get a compact AGM type. Half the size of the original mooring block and just as much grunt for starting. You don't need massive amp hours, just a reasonably healthy CCA rating. Around 200 CCA should be OK.

The original Italian battery in my SF2 had to come out the front, airbox and one cab removal job, no big deal. It missed out on the side by about a cm.

And whoever the moronic DPO who owned my replacement frame before me hammered a dimple into the frame tube so they COULD get the battery out the side. I have definitely experienced SFs where the battery wouldn?t fit out the side. Definitely doesn?t need that monster anchor! I went to 18AH lead acids back in the day.
