750 Generator re-finishing

The generator on my '76 SF3 is just a bit worse for wear where the road dirt and salt (I'm in the UK) takes it's toll. I'm not sure if the original finish is paint or some plating that is probably banned as being toxic - but has anyone any suggestions as to what I could do to get it somewhere near the original colour in terms of paint codes etc?

Again thanks in advance,
Pete

It wasn't painted but zinc plated.
I cleaned one up recently and varnished it. Not original, but functionnal and clean.
Otherwise, Andy Wagner at Laverda Paradies does new casings on an exchange basis.

I pull them apart, clean everything, have the body zinc plated and put fresh grease in the bearings.

Only way to get the M10 screws out is by drilling..

You might want to scrape away the silver paint from around the insulators at the terminals. Silver paint can be quite conductive.
