Just been having a look at some starter issues on the other black 750 (not mine). After working out that the solenoid was dead we fixed that by cracking it open and sanding and bending the contacts. Still no joy.
Took the cover of the starter side and it was obvious things were not well, the starter chain was snapped and jammed, the back plate for the sprag clutch was hanging loose and there were rollers, pistons and springs all over the place. Not nice. Pulled the clutch off and it looked like a mess, I think the rivets had come loose allowing all of the other bits to fly about and jam and snap the chain.
Took all of the loose bits out and reassembled so now he can ride. Shopping list is new back plate, starter chain, springs, plungers and rollers, BUT is this - Freilauf Innenring f?r Laverda 750/1000 - from OCT what we need? Mr wagner seems to only sell the whole unit with the pully for the generator attached. Its a pity that I did not take any photos as it would be more obvious what I am talking about.
