Hi Every body
I have just joined this forum having bought a 1999 Laverda Strike. wow what a great bike!! :D ,i have a problem with starting it it seems as though the battery is flat but it isn't. but it always starts in the end.
can anyone help at all. and were can i find a manual on the stike if there's one available.
This is my first post hope i have done it ok.

Welcome aboard. Hopefully someone will be along in a moment to offer constructive advice.

Be gentle with him please Piet!  :D

Battery is ok but starter motor is very small on Zane and has a lot to do. A good description of how to start a Zane 750 appears on the Alto performance website technical section.
Put bike in gear and roll bike a few inches backward, place in neutral, sit on bike with sidestand up and lights off. Pull choke on and thumb starter briefly (no longer than couple of secs). If does not work, repeat but don't leave thumb on starter too long. Usually works 1st time for me.
It is still possible to get a copy of the workshop manual for the strike if you search on the web. If I can find a link, I will fwd but I'm sure someone will be able to point in the right direction.
Good luck.......Cooky

Youd be hard pressed to get one for a strike, get one for a 750s, theyre mostle the same, your need to stab the starter as opposed to hold it on, sound like you have the technique, Marty in the US does a fabulous cable upgrade which helps alot, Be prpared to cop a bit of flack on this forum Bruce, but it is all constructive and will put you in the right direction about learning about the inherrent flaws within the zane bikes, theyre are a few of us that lovem so dont be afraid to ask, do some searches on here and you will find a lot of info, pics are also mandatory when first joining so send em up

Welcome Bruce

Hey Cosi, when I was watching you start your Zane 750 at Red's place, I remember thinking that the starter motor was only barely up to the job - very much like the piss-weak starter in my MHR Ducati.

Cheers,
Cam

Yes Cam,

They are just barely able to spin the engine.

A 4-brush upgrade helps matters a bit, a special starter reduction gear train is available from OCT, requires slight machining of the starter cover.

Once these are fitted, the starter works well slightly better.

What a pile of poo! :-X

Hi Bruce welcome to the forum I run a 750 strike they all start like that just don,t hang on to the button if it wont turn just flick the button a few times to help it over compression. I have just upgraded mine Westco battery ,like Piet said four brush plate and a set of leads off Marty Vegas (hes on Zanelist) no more problems. If your rich OCT do a kit that includes a new gear that completely sorts it again you need to talk to Piet (he loves ZANE) . By the way give as good as you get it,s all good humoured and there are some know ledgable people on here .Welcome to the darkside  ;)
