750GT starter motor

Who made the 750 starter motor? It does not appear to be BOSCH. Is it unique to Laverda or was borrowed from something else?

Nippon Denso I believe, could be wrong though. Never seen one used anywhere else either.

ah, at one point I found a table of ND starter motor codes & which bikes they fitted - I must have another look as it might be a handy to have a cross-reference

Yes it is an Nippon Denso part. Massimo Laverda once told me that Bosch was the distributor for Europe at the time and they proposed to source the starter from ND.

No idea if the starter was shared with other engines.

I remember seeing a very similar starter on an old Jap car, possibly Toyota, only the drive part with the planetary gears was different.
