750SF starters

I just had a reco starter motor arrive which Wolfgang supplied. Planetary gears fitted, starter installed, press button starer turns, but not the planetary shaft >:(

Took apart, removed the gear shaft thinking it may have snapped when previous motor shit itself, all intact.
Aligned 4 gears, put on shaft, spin shaft by hand gears move, but fit between starter spline and gears seems very loose.

Could it be that there were two starter shaft sizes, one larger than another?

FFS.

Chris, there are two sizes of starter shaft spline. You should have counted the spline teeth and given that info to Wolfgang.

WTF so I know about 750s, having never seen the inside of one? I just made that shit up, but it sounds plausible  :D

Outer ring? Do you mean the dowel pin on the starter motor proper? ..... can't be that pin your talking about.
I'm confused as to what ring your talking about.

The outer ring gear.  Must be an outer gear with internal teeth that engages with the planetary gears.  Otherwise you have no drive to the output shaft.
