750SF1 Idle issue

Looks like this is fixed - probably was a poor seal on the insulators - Yogi gave me a new set and new O-rings - fitted these and my idle can now be adjusted lower than 1500 rpm.

Not sure why this became a problem after fitting new cables - maybe the force needed to get the carbs off the mounts caused some distortion in the insulators - the ones I took off did not look too bad and there were no obvious cracks.

How many of us has Cracked the Bakelite spacer by using an oversize "O" Ring Dia.

I just omit the "O" Ring and use a descent Crank Case sealant.

The alloy inlet stub mating face can bow.
Put a flat across it.

Can? ::)

They always do, generations of Mr.Hamfist see to that!  Next step is to find the isolators are cracked through the uneven pressure, they simply crumble away at the ends and/or the inner ring confining the o-ring disappears...

Easy enough to skim the SF1/2/3 stubs, the GT/S/SF stubs are a bit more difficult.

I've repaired the Bakelite Spaces using Le Pages Metal Epoxy Glue - Formed to shape by grinding and omitted the stupid "O" (which you can't find in the original DIA" and use Crank Case Sealant.

Crank Case Sealant - What is it: Amphoric 1101 - Also works great for the Points Cover as long as you drill a 1/8th" hole in the bottom of the cover to drain Moisture.

Hey Chris,

If it has fixed the problem, I'm happy....  You can order a replacement set of insulators and o rings from Piet on this forum - that's where I got them from.  I can then put them back in the spares kit for the next one that needs them..
