Gday all
Currently doing a complete resto on a 77 Jota
Please excuse my ignorance but I was a multiple Ducati owner untill I saw the light.
Can anyone confirm what colours came out that year. Before it goes orange  I believe none were orange that year.
I may also have a later model fairing for sale if anyone is interested
::)

Depending on when it was made it would be black frame with either silver or gold tank and side panels, the earliest ones were red or green. I would say silver myself. Cheers Pat

G'day,

Join the club. I come from the same Ducati background (and Guzzi and Morini) and bought a 78 Black and Gold Jota now painted Orange and Silver. I did this because mine was a bitser - blank numbered 1200 frame (original presumably destroyed) / front end half Ceriani, half Marzocchi. There are a lot of very good modifications you can do to make your bike better/safer and there's a swag of people on here who can help in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Where are you based?

Chris

Gotta be an Aussie with a greeting like "G'day" and the correct (non-american) spelling of "colour" :D

Hey Chris, don't you find your bike handles funny with one Marzocchi and one Ceriani fork?  ;)

Anyway - back on topic
Waypull, sounds like you are trying to do an original resto. In Ian Falloon's book, Laverda Twind & Triples Bible, he mentions red, silver and metallic gold as colours for 1977. He shows a photo of a red 3CL with pinstripes and a metallic gold Jota without pinstripes. Both have black frames, non-rearset pegs, right side gearshift, upright shocks, Ceriani forks, tail-light mounted indicators, horns under the headlight, grey thin web FLAM wheels.
He lists the distinguishing features for 1977 (presumably changes from 1976), for approx engine number range *5240* to *6000* as black pinstripes, four o-rings to seal cylinder head studs, webbed alloy intakes, some with black fork legs.

If you give us a frame/engine number, we may be able to pin it down a bit better.

Cheers,
Cam

At the FTB one time there was a gold Jota parked next to my tent.  Looked absolutely beautiful, really classy.  Go for gold!

hi
go to the 1978 was a good year topic.the pictures of the 1978 gold jota are of a one owner from new ,never resprayed,or restored bike,it had rearsets added in 1979 when they became available and the pin stripes were added that year also because the owner though they looked nice ,and i must agree with him

The 1st UK Jotas (1976) were Pea Green - they swiftly became Red, then for 1977 it was Silver - all with black frames. I remember an ILOC meeting at Morphy Motors - nearly all the jotas in our car park were silver - couple of owners nearly took the wrong bike.  The 1978 ones were gold - then for 1979 the Orange/Silver models took over till the 180's were discontinued

Thanks guys for all your input
This place is a fantastic resource
At the moment it looks like silver with a black frame
Until furher notice  :D
