Air Filter & recomendations

Gentlemen

As I'm still running the original air filter in my 1983 Jota I thought I'd go mad and replace the air filter.

I have a standard airbox and am thinking of fitting a new standard filter.

I would welcome your comments!

If you've still got the grid thing (the foam disintegrates and gets eaten), air conditioner duct foam is used by some I seem to remember.  Cheap as, keeps the rocks out.  Unifilters are hugely over oiled when you get them (and a bit much in such a small box) so if you go that way wash it out thoroughly with white spirit and dry, or you'll run v rich.

I made a test with a K & N filter cut to the shape of the original grid

I didn't find the good rivet ...

I use fibre pre-filter material from air-conditioning suppliers. The fibre stuff tends to have less flow resistance than the foam stuff. Pretty much anything will filter better than the original coarse fibres.
Incidentally, the filter media I scrounged is about 25mm thick so I split it in half to get about 12mm thickness (it peels into layers easily). The 12mm squashes into the filter frame OK and doesn't seem affect engine breathing.

Cheers,
Cam
