Aligning the headlight.

1979 triple.  On one side, the ?ear? that fixes the headlight to the fork is misaligned and points away from straight head. To correct this, it looks to me as if I need to loosen the cap at the top of the fork (with the sunken hex or allan head) and the pinch bolt on that side, and then I will be able to rotate the fork cover to bring the ?ear? into correct alignment. Is that correct? Or will l need to remove the top yoke altogether before I can rotate the fork cover into alignment?
Thanks for advice.

Probably just loosening the Allen bolt on the top yoke on that side should allow you to move the incriminated part, eventually freeing the top yoke with a well aimed rubber mallet upwards might help.
If you move one side, the opposite side will of course also move.

Normally no need to loosen the pinch bolts or top nut.  If everything is assembled correctly, the support tubes are simply held in place by the pressure of the lower locating rubber acting on it.  Loosen the fixing bolts to the headlamp shell, move the tubes till everything is as straight as possible and re-tighten the bolts.  The "ears" have elongated holes as well, they can be adjusted on the rubber block.
