Alpino gear selector position

Here is one for the 500 experts, and I will try and describe my problem.
I took my Alpino test riding yesterday and have found that it is difficult to change down from 2nd to first often a specific gear change movement back up then down again to get first gear. The other strange issue is to get the neutral light to come on you must lift the gear lever up until it is nearly in second gear, and the roller that holds the drum in position is out of the valley it would normally sit in now assuming the neutral trigger is a permanent part of the selector drum and cannot move! is there a chance that the plate that the rollers engage on the other end of the selector drum can be in the wrong position, and how is it located on the selector drum.
My manuals are all packed and I am not sure if it would have this detail as well.
Regards
M.

Well I removed the primary case to try and resolve this selector position problem,
It seems that the plates the rollers sit in and pins the fork pulls on were out of position on the selector drum, so I slackened of the bolt and let it rotate a few degrees.
There is a allen headed 6mm bolt that locks the plates onto the end of the selector drum and not sure but seems to be just a friction fit I would have thought there would be a dowel pin in there, does anyone have a picture of this connection?

Hi Maurice,
Go to the LAVERDAMANIA site and look up the 350/500 partslist.

page 25 shows the gear selection setup ,compare with what you've actually got.

Sounds like something is binding thus stopping free movement.
