Alpino ignition

Hi, I was bored last night so I decided to check the ignition on my 1981 Alpino with a strobe. Despite moving the picks up to their maximum clockwise position, neither ignition side (D or S) seems to be able to advance the ignition up to the A mark (35 degreess?), but is slightly retarded (I can say that??  :o) at something like 30 degress BTDC. Is this a problem? I had heard that the advance profile was aggressive etc, but strewth, I wasn't expecting it to jump so quickly as it neared 3k rpm. What should the ignition setting be at say 1500 rpm? IF you guys suggest I need to replace the ignition, is the Sachse unit the way to go? Thanks

The workshop manual states ignition timing as 35? +/-2? BTDC.  Not much you can do to adjust.

The change from retard to advance is sudden, usually around 1800-2200rpm.  You can influence the timing of the change slightly with the pick-up/rotor gap.

Chucking it all out and fitting aDMC/Sachse/whatever system will transform the 500 much the same as the triples are transformed once the original ignition is junked.  Usually allow precise and correct timing, which probably the major gain.

I used to run either 5 or 6 on my bike.
The vibration did get to the unit in the end and it would not run properly on the right cylinder. Ended up replacing it with a Dyna system.
