battery voltage

Guys

I am poised to buy the flash new lithium battery for my SFC1000, but last night my buddy suggested I take a look at one of the Oddesey batteries off his non running Harley in my basement.

I charged up the PC545 overnight. After charging it showed 13.7 volts. Today it sits at about 12.9. What voltage should a stationary battery hold? Should I just try it? Its free

If it holds a charge and starts your bike what's to lose? I'd give it a go for sure. That's 200bucks more you can spend on beer  8)

Be careful charging it as they need special chargers.
I think they need a very slow trickle rate.

No - the critical issue for long life from an Odyssey is charging voltage - don't use a charger that supplies less than 14.2v or more than 15v during the charging cycle.  Optimum is 14.7v - ordinary chargers and even gel type units won't provide that.  Full tech info here http://www.odysseybattery.com/documents/US-ODY-TM-001_0411_000.pdf - see pages 15-17

FWIW, this what I use as a 'rough and ready' guide, Andr?.  12.7v = 100% charge.

EDIT:
Or even better, use Odyssey-specific info from the link that Rob so kindly (and wisely ...) supplied  :D
