Bike lift

ask around at your local bike dealers, many of the older hydrauilic types are being replaced with new(er) pneumatic types, some of these have a remote control (like a tv handset) so that you can raise or lower from wherever you happen to be standing, no good if you dont have a permanent plumbed in air supplly, and the old hydrauilic ones go for a reasonably low sum, I tenederd for seven units a few years ago and was one of only seven tenderers,(son Tom actually) but from a workshop where 14 mechanics all "wanted" one, I/we tenderd for one unit and seperately for all seven, this was Pizza hut central workshop/repair unit, the foreman/manager was so pissed off that only sevn of the fourteen where prepared to put there money where their mouth is, he said that all seven of us could have one for free!
and stuff the others, result!

When Bat motorcyles closed about six months ago they were "evicted" and left all sorts of things behind, these were all given away by the new occupants of the unit in excahnge for favours, I did some galvanised air lines for my pal Grizz and he was given an almost new ramp FOC.
So they dont have to be expensive.

Yeah, people do swear by them...but quite a few people seem to drop their pride and joys off 'em! Think Gavin got the bent Conrod for that on time ;)

Got mine from a Triumph dealer that was upgrading their ramps so the mechanics didn't get RSI from the constant pumping on the pedal to raise the ramp! It's old but well built and the hydraulics are serviceable.

A mate recently enquired about a ramp from Machine Mart but the sales guy told him they have to reject so many because of poor quality (made in China) he'd do better looking elsewhere  :o. He bought a KD bench in the end as very pleased with it.

I bought one in Germany through ebay. Pretty sure it was made in China, but it is very robust, good powder coating and hydraulics work well.
Makes working on the bike so much easier, don't know why I didn't get one years ago.

Features to look for (other than size & lifting capacity)
Removable plate so you can get the back wheel out
Good front wheel clamp, and stop, so it won't roll off.
Castors so it can be moved around - this really helps in small places like my shed
Anchor rings for strapping the bike on securely
A mechanical locking system, in case the hydraulics should leak.
