Bike of the Month - August 2010

Which Bike deserves your vote?

I went for Brown 47.
Close call to the Van Dijk Special as that one has beer in front of it, and a great looking tank. But the 47 seems to have a better finish, and although i wouldn't ever paint my bike in those colours, it sure is nicely done. Generally: i don't like SFC stiled triples too much. And i'm not fond of those eighties jap exhaust pots like sewer pipes.

#47 has far too much bling for my taste, and I don't think I'd want to go too far over 50mph with the front mudguard mounted so close to the tyre.  The rear brake lever seems to be set up for a pygmy rider, come to think of it, that bike isn't ridden at all!! ::)

Having ridden a triple with an extended tank, I full well know that it doesn't work, puts far too much weight to the rear.  Maybe Ok for running straight ahead on Dutch motorways, no curves except turn-offs, but rubbish in the twisties.

The sidestand of the alloy beast will scrape at the slightest hint of a corner, as will the cans. :'(
These must be mounted as on Robs' bike, which I know does definitely go around corners at an alarming rate!! :D

And the French effort simply doesn't cut it...... :cheesy:

piet :bolt:

Hey Piet, pictured is a streched tank I made out of two bashed up Jota tanks a few years back for my mate Al, seems to manage the twisties perfectly well....
Got to agree with you regarding #47, this style is popular with early Hondas in the states, men with big tattoos and little beards call them cafe racers, wrong, it's even got a road fairy bell.

Congratulations go to Rob with his superb triple. This month has seen the most votes cast in the long BoM history, so a big thank you to all who voted and all those whose bikes where featured, I think it was a tough competition this month. Not quite 10% but close enough for me to tell you the result.

I have attached some more pics for you to enjoy. Rob please feel free to add some detail about your bike.

How did you find not knowing who was out in front prior to casting your vote? Should we stick to this format? A third option is avalable which is in between the methods previusy used, total votes cast becomes vsible only after an individual has voted. Please provide some feedback.

Speaking personally I really did not like not knowing the voting percentage.
It never affects my decision as I am usually one of the first to vote, and so the vote count at that point is meaningless.

I think it would be reasonable for the voting to be known after the individual places their vote though.

Hi Scrumpy, I thought I would be able to see how many votes each bike received at the end, but I cannot. Am I not looking in the right place?

I think not being able to see the results until the end is OK. Being able to see them after voting would be OK too, but if you are worried about owners influencing others, or begging for votes, then I would leave it as it was for August. I didn't mind when a few blokes were pushing for votes, it was light hearted and humorous. After all, it is only bragging rights up for grabs, not your house.

That's my two cents worth.  I think I have voted in all the BOM competitions. I think it is a good concept. Well done.
Darren.

on this selection of bikes I always knew Rob was going to win  8)

not real worried if one can see the vote total or not, I'd say keep it as it is for the time being
it certainly seems to have helped swell the total vote

I like Grants idea if its achievable, cast the vote without knowing then be able to follow the percentages afterwards,i certainly looked more often before  .Its a great thread either way, well done Scrumpy

Chappo,
Not sure why you cant see the results. There is one possible explanation that I can think of. I set the competition to run until the 1st Sept at a certain time. The competiiton was closed a few hours early on the 31st Aug. May be the different time zones around the world affect when the results are displayed. Just a thought. If the problem still persists let me know as I am aware that Xavier was unable to vote this month. Not qiuite the same problem but something that may need resolving.

Thanks for your thought so far, please keep them coming. Which ever option people shout loudest for will be given a trial run next month (October). The option not yet tried is to display the votes cast after individuals have voted - a half way house.

G'morning peoples
Scrumpy, I like the format where you can see the votes after you've cast your own.   I'd like to say thank you to my agent, my friends and family, the ..... :'(

No seriously, thanks for voting on my crock, I really do appreciate it and the timing is impeccable. Its 5 1/2 weeks since I broke my ribs and lung, Im pretty fit now and ready to take on the world   Cadwell Park on Thursday. Did 200 miles on the bike at the weekend down to Dorset without drama and with revised valve clearances the bike is running quite well.

Thanks again for the positive vibes and Scrumpy for an excellent Competition  :D

Cheers Rob

ps the photos 1 thro' 3 are:

1/RAF Honnington  Sprint 1/4 mile around early 2009 (based on old leathers but revised engine finish, hate polishing)
2/ taken in August 2010 after RAF Odiham, the aggresive runway tarmac took the rubber off the tyres, was a great day !
3/ RAF Wroughton near Swindon where I got an 11.14 1/4 mile.

Here's a short track video from happier times this year, its hosted on facebook so It may or may not be visible to all http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/video/video.php?v=425673077989
