Bosch Regulator Point 61

My SF3 has been emptying its battery over the past week or so. Testing with a multimeter has revealed the battery is fine but nothing is returning into it. Visual inspection of the 8 month old Bosch regulator (not installed by me) has revealed that Point 61 does not have a wire attached to it, and I cannot locate a loose wire. Is this as it should be?

Many thanks,

Keith

I just checked a wiring diagram and it shows a connection between #61 and the charge warning light in the tachometer.

Hi Keith,

The good old Bosche regulator should also work without the warning light.
Do check if the earth connector wire at the base of the regulator connects to the frame properly.

Thank-you for your inputs.
The generator light on the tach appears to be working though a little slow when starting from cold to go out. I guess this may indicate that worn dynamo bushes may be responsible for my charging problem. Thank-you for the fault finding guide link. It suggests to exert pressure on the bushes when the engine is running to see if the meter reading goes up slightly. I am not sure how to do this!
I am guessing my point 61 was not attached to anything as I can find no lose wire and the light on the tach works. Everything else appears to be firmly attached.

Many thanks,

Keith

If your charge light is longish to go out on starting, check that the belt isn't slipping and needing changing.

The link is from a VW site, they have ventilation cutouts in the backing plate which allows access to the brushes, not possible on a bike with the genny behind the front wheel.
If you pull your genny apart, a very easy job, and give it a clean (contact cleaner), carefully run over the commutator with fine emery where the brushes contact it to new copper colour. It may be just the fine buildup on the commutator is enough to reduce the charging. Also gives you a chance to see how much the brushes are worn down.
You say the gen light in the tach works, but no wire going to the reg? Cannot be.

Dinah-moes need gen control light wired up to point 61 on the reg to give humm. ;)
Other end of control bulb goes to switched battery +.

If that's not the cure search the forum for "Moving to Montana to raise crop of dental floss" to learn more about DC generator polarization. :D

an "Overnite Sensation" for sure :D
