Is there a simple solution to stop the rev counter on an RGS having a mind of its own, was wandering if it is common for a connector or sensor to have a short. I have lived with this bouncy rev counter for sometime but being new to the forum thought one of you clever more experinced people may help.

Yes, the needle has teeny weeny lead counter weights that fall off all of them. They can be repaired by an instrument person but I have lived quite happily without a tacho as do most RGS owners for years, don't really need one as you can easily feel what the engine is doing.

So as I have could just swap the needle of my spare clocks that are not in such good condition .
Thank Drikko

Hi Duncan,

Probably easier and less hassle to swap the complete rev counter, on the assumption that your spare one works correctly.... ;)

Duncan as the advice above, it's most likely the weights have fallen off, common problem. You can check the feed wire to the console to rule out a dirty connection. They can be repaired but Speedy Cables in the UK quoted me almost as much to repair as the price of a new unit so I ended up buying a new one from OCT in Germany.

Might have mislead you a bit, the lead weights are further down in the mechanism than the needle so swapping needles won't necessarily work. Sorry about that!

Thanks all for advice shall probably do as Alan said just swap rev counter off spare pod that has cracked perspex. Should have thought of it myself if I had half a brain cell.
