After badgering poor old Keith for a set of Red's caliper adaptors for my RGS, it turns out Red has never made any adaptors for my proposed setup (40mm Brembo 4 pots, standard wheels and discs, Marzo forks)

My question is, do the Guzzitech adaptors fit straight on to my bike as it is?

As far as I know Richard, they do, but they look puig ugly when installed, no beauty to them at all, ask Hobnob, I think he did just that.I think that they are also doing a similar adapter for the wider spaced (later) calipers as well
CLEM
PS wanna buy a later pair of wider spaced calipers?????
mail me if yes

Yer right, they do look horrible, unlike Red's ones (that I had on the 180) which were things of beauty.  Unfortunately I have a set of 40s ready to go and I'm gonna have to hang 'em off something.

I think you mount them one way for 280mm discs, and the other way for 300mm discs.
I had a set way back for POP before I switched to the current set up.

yes, I have a pair of the GuzziTech caliper adaptors on my 79 1200 with Marzocchi forks, and a pair of GuzziTech caliper adaptors on my 84 RGS with Marzocchi's. Both bikes are using gold 40 mm mounting spacing four piston Brembo calipers, and 280 mm brake discs. Everything just bolted on, and has been working well for years now.

The looks don't bother me as contrasted to the huge braking improvement........if you have black lower fork legs I suppose you could have the presently silver naked aluminum adaptors anodized or coated black, but I didn't bother.

The ones I had were gold anodised, quite similar to the calipers and looked ok.

Cheers chaps, I've emailed them for a shipping price.

You might get a nice surprise there - I emailed them for a shipping price to the UK when i bought mine and they just charged me the standard shipping.

Given what it costs us to post anything overseas*, that was a nice touch.

Bob

* I'm regularly posting bits of knackered old Yamaha off to Australia and the postage always cost more than the bits sold for.

$108 to my door.  Just over ?70.

BTW, I'll be flogging off the old calipers if anyone is interested.

Just had an email from Hobson.  He says that his pads don't contact the whole disc.  Has he got them on upside down?

Perhaps...

Been using these since I converted to Gixxer wheels and 4-potters.  Certainly don't look as flash as Reds items, but they do the job.  And they're not too obtrusive, either.

I have them in stock in un-drilled form in order to accomodate any disc size ranging from 270-310mm on forks for P08s and 280mm discs, or 290-330mm on forks for 300mm discs. ;)

Quite possibly - Keith was very rude about the shonky nature of mine because the pads didn't contact the whole disc.

Tell him to spend a few minutes trying them in every orientation he can think of - mine didn't have any orientation marks on them so, having had the problem pointed out, I juggled them about until they fitted properly.

Well if they don't allow full contact of pad on disc then they are going in the bin on ebay.

If they don't give full contact on the disc then turn the adaptors the other way round.
They are designed to fit 2 sizes of disc depending on orientation.
And I don't mean that in a 120/180 kind of way...  :P

Just did a trial fit of the brake adaptors which arrived today.  The pads do contact the disc fully, although a bit further out in their diameter so may take a little more time to bed in while the slight ridge at the edge of the disc wears the pad away a bit, but it all looks good.

I reckon a couple of 14mm hex 10mm bolts are needed with the appropriate sized (ie smaller than usual) washers to help the way the thing looks. A lot of people use allen bolts to hold the caliper on and they just look all wrong.  Dunno if I can get 'em in metric coarse as they are most usually found on Jap bikes in 1.25 fine thread form.  Had some made once in stainless, may have to again.  Only a small thing, but these details count.

Quick question:  The speedo cable needs to be a bit longer so that I can rotate the drive down a bit so the cable clears the caliper properly.  I seem to remember using one off a 1200TS or similar last time I did this sort of job- what would be the correct cable to order or is it a custom job?

Oh, and cos I am skint I'll be selling the calipers and the two lower Earl's Goodridge braided lines which are shrink wrapped black with stainless swaged fittings.  All in good order and guaranteed working.

Slater recommended a speedo cable off a 120 Jota when I put 4 pots on POP.
Probably same as for RGA too.

Ah,maybe that was it.  Only needs to be a couple of inches longer.  Heard that before too..
