i find simply rotating the piston as it is pushed in works a treat
i grease the seal, install it, then smear a bit around the piston

do check the seal recess for any substance that may be forcing the seal to not fit true round

Very good point Scott!!  The most likely cause for leaks after an overhaul.

Have often found lumps of corroded shit there, preventing a proper seal BEHIND the seal and allowing fluid to escape by the bucketfull.  Unfortunately, when removed, the corrosion often leaves a hollowed out area, which can be just as bad.  Bye bye caliper... :o

Piston should slide in with very little force.  I thoroughly smear all rubber bits and the pistons before installing with the supplied grease, there's enough of it.

I am accumulating a stockpile of that grease!
One sachet does all 3 calipers, and you get 1 sachet per pair of seals.

Hi
Just a point, the red rubber brake grease for automotive use is not the same as silicone grease it it formulated to bo innert when it comes into contact with dot 3 or 4 brake fluid.the plumbers silicone grease is formulated to work with water applications and would probably be fine with silicone based brake fluid.
