Bregenze 750 Electrics

As suggested I have cleaned the terminals and no starter operation as yet on my '69 750.
This is a slow process of elimination at the moment to find the issue.
When the starter relay operates I expect the starter to draw 10-12 amps across the relay but it is showing zero amps.  The battery shows 13 amps when briefly touched with my multi-meter.
Bypassing the relay and connecting the starter to the +ve terminal produced a very slight movement once only and then nothing.

Hello Simon,

Do you have access to a set of jumper cables and a known good battery? i.e. from a car or something else with hefty starting power.
Sounds to me that the battery in the 750 is weak.

Good luck
Gerald

You can by pass the starter relay by jump starting the starter with a charged battery to spin the mill. The Starter relay maybe NFG - Any simple external starter relay will work.

Test the starter relay by shorting the main circuit across the relay with a wrench or a big screw driver - Maybe your starter switch is the culprit and if you got a Lucas Key Ignition Switch - GET RID of IT.

That's providing the Starter will wind Up on it's own.

The starter brushes are the culprits.  The have disintegrated as you can see.  It was obvious that the springs had bottomed out as soon as the cover was removed. :D :D :D

I spoke too soon as the commutator is damaged - any suggestions?
