cam buckets

most are the same, but there was  period when short valve springs were used with corresspondingly short  tapetts (commonly called buckets) but are in fact cam followers, so tapett is the correct term (look it up in the concise English dictionary)

This issue is clouded by the fact that a kit was avaialable for double valve springs, and some models may have had them from new (press bikes?) those so fitted have a thinner walled section to the tappet.

What is worrying you? what generates the question?

I would guess that you have some valve springs (bought some new ones lately?) that have been wound from wire that is too thick in section and is becoming coil bound.I have had two such sets one from UK (not Slaters or Toddy) and one from the colonies, both sets were useless for this reason. The UK set was so bad that the ends of the springs were deformed prior to finishing (heat treatment) which meant that the spring seat and collet washer could not be fitted inside them. Why should I have to cut/grind metal from a temered item, spoiling it, in order to make the top and bottom steel rings fit into them, total crap, so obtained another set which fitted OK but were still coilbound with nice new valves and seats with nice thick shims, a third set from Toddy (bought two) worked fine, thanks Phill, I wish you were still a full on trader, I would have gone to you first.

There were long ones, short ones, thick ones, thin ones... all will interchange with another in any triple head as long as  (again for the benefit of the short-sighted) stock valve springs are fitted.

The length is no problem.  Thick-walled ones won't fit with factory double springs or any other springs with a larger outer diameter than stock single items.

Obviously, for weight reasons, the short thin-walled ones are to be preferred.

I bought a set of these springs from this Laverda parts trader a few years ago as I was looking for another source of valve springs
his product is crap, springs look like they were cut from a fork spring with a drop saw, length between springs varied by over 1.0mm, none of the ends were square, when installed seat pressure varied between valves by around 40 lbs
I stored them carefully in the rubbish bin and crossed another UK Laverda trader off the trusted list

Red..don't hold back..tell us how you really feel

Who would be a trusted source? I'm sure Wolfgang is one.  Are there others?

I think that was holding back...
