Cam chain issue 1000c3

A little while ago I bought a 1000c3 , Impeccable visually, someone spend a lot of money.
But, low compression on 2 cylinders, I cranked and noticed the hissing, and a compression test confirmed this.
I pulled the head, chain was intact, and connected, but missing the circlip lock, incredible yes !
Issues with the head gasket . Blow by, head bolts were loose, think seems someone started repair, but stopped.
Previous owner died, so I have no history, bought it from an estate.
I have serial #1543.

The timing chain has markings on it, it says Regina extra, and appears to be the original chain or an original replacement , it's very pretty, and well made. I did get a hold of a new Regina c121hcs, but I cannot get it connected, even after pulling the tensioner blade, and the tensioner , it's short by a minute distance. The old chain fits well. I read on Breganzane that there was a production run with this problem.

I would prefer to mount the old chain, so I need the closing link, or at least the circlip.

Where oh where can I find one ?

Clearly the newer Regina chains use different links, so that is not an option.

Call if you like.

I am in San Francisco, originally from Holland, it's where the Laverda love comes from..

Throw the new chain in petrol overnight.

The lubrication is taking up all the tolerances.

It should be a single chain and the DIN number is 06B-1.

Any bearing suppliers should know this number but the quality you get may be suss.

Only use the clip not the whole link.

Better still buy a new iwis from me at ?25 plus postage (only kidding)

Andy

Why would you want to use the old chain in the bike?
They are service items, they get old.
A broken chain costs a lot more to repair than the cost of a new chain.

I threw away a few new Regina chains I had as they were too tight to fit.
The general consensus on this forum was either a bad batch from Regina, or a substandard rip-off copy.

I buy all my cam and primary chains now from Andy (chain).
Buy with confidence from him.

Sounds like you may need to solve some leakage at the head before you worry about a joining link but as Grant mentions why muck around with an old chain, take it as good advice contact Andy or whoever sells the "correct" iwis chains and tow it through with your old Regina the cost of a new chain will be far outstripped by a chain failure!!!

Correct ref for iwis is G67WZ.

Cam chain is silver industrial has blue plates.

Jane at Sprockets also supplies as does Redax.

Thank you all, I send a message to Andy for an Iwis chain.

I did have the head looked at, valve job, and valve adjustment.
I compared the new Regina chain to the old one that was in my 1000, and found the old one
so much better made, the closing link fitted very well, unlike the new Regina I got, which showed a lot of side play.
It made me really want to use the old chain, which appears to fit nicely, not too loose, and ofcourse it is worn to the gear teeth, so its a good fit.

I will wait for the Iwis.

Henri.

Henri, you mention difficulty fitting the chain.  Perhaps you're making a mistake I made years ago when I was first getting to know Laverda triples.  I erroneously believed it was sufficient to slacken the cam chain tension mechanism located behind the cylinders.  Wrong!  When it is completely removed the cam chain gains enough slack to be easily joined at the master link.
It seems you've already successfully dodged one bullet with the missing master link clip, I hope your good fortune continues!
Welcome to the forum.
Oh yes,  one other thing: Wolfgang is your friend.
