Cam chain

This is all getting a bit much as Bob has now said I am evasive about iwis technical spec and whether it is fit for motocycles, he has even e-mailed iwis in Munich.

No chain supplied by any manufacturer is fit for purpose on a motorcycle given correct chain application charts.

Go to the Renold web site and put any bike producing over 30bhp into the free chain calculater provided. On a simple graph type pre selection chart even for 30bhp you need an 1" pitch chain, and even then it should be triplex. Which is why the major producers such as Renold, iwis, Sedis etc etc distance themselves from this market. So I doubt whether Bob will get a satisfactory answer from iwis or Renold on the matter.

Renold was always industrial it just happened that it was a superb product and worked well on bikes. As far as I am aware they only started recommending outer links after a costly failure in the USA. Even then they incuded a spring clip in the box as "a get you home" feature, which seems strange if the soft link is so good.

Bob I have never been evasive about quality, indeed I have spoken out regarding the lack of information from manufacturers. I know you have close links with Regina and I have no problems with that but unfortunately I have had enough of the fight and submit to your superior knowledge.

I now ask Laverda owners to contact you regarding chain issues and I will concentrate on my other clients, including those Laverda owners who trust me.

To everybody on here thankyou for your support and kind comments at times like this but I really am too tired of this thing with Bob.

What is the point of all this confrontation Bob?
It seems to an onlooker that you are trying to infer Andy was in some way responsible for the crap iwis chain on Rufus's bike.
Is that the point or have I completely missed it?
Or is it that you dont like him promoting his chain business on this site?
Or is there something more to it that you aren't telling us?
C'mon lets have it out in the open.
Regards Pat.

Hi
The way i see it if Ray had a chain sold to him by Andy and it was faulty or incorrectly labled or sold he should take up the matter with him and 1 try to resolve the matter and 2 give Andy a chance to resolve the matter with his supplier.
I'm in the garage trade and had spark plugs from NGK with no thread on them?A clutch from an OE supplier with only friction material on one side.Viscous coupling with no threads in the blade fixings.Shit happens but i would never condemn the make what ever it happend to be because of these problems.A well known German manufacturer of cars is having trouble with swirl flaps braking on their engines and wrecking the engine, and they have modified the part ,but took no responsibility for the failures of the old design. If i told people to not buy their cars because of this i would be laughed at.just google swirl flaps an see what i mean.and no you wont need to put in the manufacturer first.

It looks like we will lose the valued and highly important chain expertise from Andy,

we all get it for free and it makes the forum more enjoyable for all.

Should that happen we will all have an opinion of who is to blame.I have got mine.Have you got yours?

What other SPECIALIST experts have we got here, a tyre man, an oil man, a spring man, a valve man, a chassis man? well I cant see them except for the Laverda dealers who contribute so much for so little.

Andy does not give a hoot where you buy your chains, he doesnt have to because 99% of people are sensible and watch where there pennies go, the other 1% are loaded. If you do your research, once you have taken Andys advise (or any one elses) and spec'd your chain, he will invariably be the best place to buy it, and even if you decide to pay more and purchase else where, he will still support you as a person, and a fellow motorcyclist.

I am still waiting a response from Regina , to whom I have sent 3 letters and 3 samples of chain,(timing type 3M) with no answer other than "we are looking into it and will get back in due course" its been months now so it wont happen, and I could give a shit anway.

Ray told me he purchased the chain from Andy a few weeks ago just prior to taking the bike to Spa

This needling has been going on a long time Brad not just since Spa. There was a big bust up between Bob and Andy a while ago and as far as I can detect, little digs here and there all the time generally coming from Bob. I've got no axe to grind. I just wonder why this is?
I dont profess to know the answer. As far as people promoting their wares on this forum is concerned several people do it and Bob himself sells Laverda Corse items on here and why not?
Just give me the real reason why Andy is getting stitched up please and if you think he is a charlatan come out and say so because that is what I think some people are trying to intimate or am I wrong? I would like to know the answer before buying chain for my own bikes.

Andy has had a really tough time personally recently and has been undertaking psychological counselling (he has said as much in a few posts so I don't feel I am letting the cat out of the bag).
This is a time for him to recover and regain his health, not a time to have a sustained and persistent onslaught against him.
Death by a thousand smileys indeed.

Andy, Crispin,

Many moons ago in the Moto Witt workshop, I fitted IWIS o-ring drive chains to Laverdas in for servicing.  These chains were supplied with clip links only.  The trick was, the outer plate of the connecting link was a tight interference fit on the pins.  A special tool was available, enabling one to press on the outer plate, fit the spring clip and press the outer plate outwards against the spring clip, effectively securing the clip.  I used this type chain on my own bikes, never lost a spring clip again.  The connecting link could be removed 2-3 times, for whatever reason, before the interference fit had deteriorated to the point the outer plate just slipped on.  By that time, the chain would be knackered anyway....

Just wondering if todays' IWIS chains retain this feature.

Bob,

I am with Grant and Pat - what on earth is going one here?  If someone has a problem with parts supplied, surely they should contact the supplier?

I once received some Ceriani shocks I bought off ebay - they were described as reconditioned and perfect. Well, they were recondition and very good, but were missing parts  :'(.  I didn't post on the Laverda forum, just contacted the seller (as anyone should).

The seller??? "windcheetahman" - ring any bells Bob??? (Yes, I got my money back, but I didn't spread gossip about a dodgy supplier!)

Andy is a good guy and should be given the common decency I gave "windcheetahman" and contacted BEFORE shouting on a web forum.

Well..all I can say is Andy has been first rate and more than fair....customer service...super.

I ordered a Merc chain..British Post lost it..I ordered another..he sent it via express, to the USA, no charge to me..Would not hear a word of taking any money for the lost package...only wanted a drink next time I'm in the neighborhood...

You evaluate a person by how they behave when things go wrong...it is easy to be wonderful when things are working out well.

In Andy's case...he went well above the call of duty. All I can say is
Thank-You.jpg

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has noticed the constant needling of Andy from Bob. I don't know what your problem with Andy is Bob but from my perspective Andy has been more than helpful with advise and comes across as a generally good guy with a big heart. I don't think his input on this forum is for financial gain, has never pushed his product and the only problem seems to come from Bob.
Your treatment of Andy Bob has be very fucking tacky in the least. >:(

A bit off topic this I know  ??? but I stripped a '78 triple motor last week with what looks like it's original Regina cam chain in. It was a bush type chain running 4.42mm pins, stamped up Regina Extra on the sideplates. Chain does not show a great deal of stretch but it has worn very pronounced flats on the bushes.
Just a bit of chain stuff..........
