There is a  cam cover is made in 2 pieces bolted together on ebay.Haven't seen this before, are they like this in all cases. My 3C is one piece.

Probably a special made to access the cams on engines in spine frames that have no clearance to the cover.  ::)

Its split vertically through the cam chain section

looks like the split area has been "beefed up" with a good weld. Not sure what this should solve, a spine-Frame would see the cover come off to the right side or never come of, not even split, at least not that way.

This is adding more sealing area to a cover that needs to be oil-tight. Can't see what it should solve... maybe the owner had two damaged ones and made a third, good one out of it?  :o

Thanks for that Maurice, will maybe look at a weld repair to mine.Seems I broke the bottom of one of the 6mm mounting hole out of it.

Maurice's cover has landed from the deep south, he's a good bloke for a Mexican  (bigthumb)...  so all we got to do is get it to you now I guess..or you can come out here and pick it up.  (hi)  I can try to drop off one evening next week if you like )I might even give it a clean up if I feel that way inclined over the weekend.

Dont even think about that joined cover more problems that it is worth is my take why someone would even bother is beyond my meager comprehension cant see the point.. then again at least it would be cheap...

It' actually not a bad idea. They're a tight fit to wangle out in a standard frame. If you have some kind of special or modified frame that has less room over the engine, it might well be impossible to remove. A split in the middle avoids having to lift the cover up over the cam sprockets. Each half will pull straight out sideways. If it's done well (which it appears to be) it shouldn't leak.

On a standard frame, it's not necessary. If you raise the engine (like Rob f.e. did), you might have the issue you are talking about. However, as from the left part of the cover, the cam-chain area still has to pass the center frame tube somehow, I don't see how this could improve it... But maybe one would simply have to try it to see the benefit?

Making it oil-tight should be easy with some Hylomar or similar silicone sealants

Yes Lothar, there only has to be a couple of millimetres clearance to the tube and she slides out easily horizontally.
The only ball-ache is undoing the extra screws and smearing some sealant on the extra split - seems easy to me as well.
The hard bit is fabricating the flange.
