camchain adjustment

hi all i have recently noticed a loud ticking which sounds to me like its coming from the centre of the engine.So i am thinking the cam chain may be slack,my question is,can i adjust the tension by simply turning the adjuster bolt with the engine running.Or is it a case of taking the cam cover off and then adjusting with the bolt to give 10mm slack.Thanks

Hi Phat,

as its a 180, you can turn the engine so the cam lobes are pushing the tops of the cam whels towards each other - putting 'slack' into the top run. This makes it easier to establish the 10mm.
