Hi everybody

I had some troubles whith my 750 engine and in the end I have finaly found that the cam chain timing is out for one  tooth  !

Can I retime the chain only by removing the cambox cover ( without remove the complet head) ?

The green book seems to say that  it's the right way to do it  ....

Thank's for you advices

yes, remove cam cover, split the chain, reposition chain, join chain, install cam cover, reposition engine, go for a ride
is straight forward job, just takes time

pays to tie the chain ends off after splitting the chain so you don't drop an end into the engine, I use a small wedge each side of the sprocket to jam the chain in place while splitting it
then you can tie the ends off, remove wedges, etc

good luck

Check the Cam Tensor Wheel and Spring if there beat up replace and as Red says DO NOT drop the cam chain into the sump.

Might be worth fitting some thin wire to each end as well as using the wedges - if it does drop, easy peasy to get it out again. And you'll be moving the crank forward or back ward to get the correct cam timing, so chain must be off the cam sprocket. Alternatively, rotate the cam sprocket in correct direction to get marks aligned. Either way, chain will be floating free until you rejoin.

A bit of folded rag works as a wedge. And use rags to catch joiner link bits that you will drop if you don?t have rags there. Remember to remove the tensioner assembly. You can tilt the engine forward on the two loosened lower rear mount bolts, saves removing the entire engine.
