Just making up a loom to convert the 120 plastic instrument pod back to ND clocks and i see the 120 has no charge light. I presume they just run a wire from the VR output ?

I thought Ducati dealers charged heavy...  :-*

Not all Laverda triples had a functioning generator light.

Yea but as its in the clock i might as well wire it in. Not all ducati dealers charge heavy...just me  :D

The challenge will be finding a suitable VR with the charge indicator light output.  An Electrex RR51 has one, but isn't suitable for the ND 3 phase output on a 120

Well i was thinking either a light on to show charge which is just a wire from the VR output or use a Darmah reverse relay thing which goes in line and lights up when no charge and goes out when there is charge. Basically its just a relay,  live in from the VR, a live in from the battery. the battery lights the charge light until the relay gets a voltage from the VR which then opens the circuit from battery to idiot light.

Neat - if expensive!  ;)  As Tippie suggests, the alternative is an LED unit which can provide more info on charging status.  Some of us Neanderthals might opt for a proper voltmeter. BTW, a light from VR output will be permanently lit since it connects to the battery.

Hmmm, yes i haven't thought this through very well...I mean who makes a bike with a charge light that doesnt work.. :D

I have one of those on my Audi instrument panel as standard.
Very useful bit of kit which tells me the voltage of the battery before starting and then how she is charging when going.
I suppose mums going out shopping in the car couldn't give a shit what the voltage is but ticks the box for my weird noggin  :D

Those that deem it unnecessary...

Early triples had a beautifully simple and uncomplicated wiring loom, why add something that wasn't needed?  Every Laverda triple owner knew after the first ride through town at night that the battery wouldn't start the bike next morning, stating the bloody obvious imho. :D

Having said that Paddy, I do like the relay solution, cheap and easy.  Might even add that to my RGS, just to have another light in the instrument cluster working! :D

I fitted a kit from these guys,a small solid state relay fits inside the headlight.Ignition on light comes on,start engine and if all is well the light goes out.
Low rpm with all the lights on,and the light will come on,but goes out once the rpm rises above 1300 or so,depending on how good your charging system is.
It's not expensive,around ?15.

I agree with Piet to a certain extent,it is not necessary, but it was the only light in the clocks that did not work.I know, sad right.

As I am rubbish at doing links.here is the web address.;www.improvingclassicmotorcycles,com/products

Cheers,Jim.

Thanks Cisco, i will read up on this later  ;)
Here is the working link, actually looks ideal as its switching at about 12.1v so rather than just an off charge light its working as a heavy load warning as well like a volt meter..

I'm in the fortunate position where my neutral light doesn't work either, so there's no point in fixing the charge light :-D

Some of us neanderthals ride a Le Mans which comes with a voltmeter (well a gauge with a needle and pretty red and green background)
