And of course I fully agreed that that has been the mother of all fuck ups
Then again, any badly applied chrome on exhausts will peel very quickly.I have had this done on Laverda cases before (when I started reading this post I thought that you had chromed the actual crankcases! rather than the covers)
My chromed on alloy, did not last long, but I didn't really notice it going, not sure where or when it went, I must still be using those covers and I have had re-polishing done a few times on the circulating sets, because I keep a set in stock ready to go on, as well as having various other engine units, I have no idea which ones were chromed, Ray Sheepwash had some stainless downpipes chromed a few years ago, looked brilliant, no straw colour etc, but was peeling visbly after about a month.

Worth checking. Grant had my front axle chromed with his job lot and it was fine, no difference to before, just as he had said when I raised the issue. I really don't like the look of the Laverda engine covers chromed though, they look so good in alloy. Then again, any badly applied chrome on exhausts will peel very quickly.
Concerning Miguel, I'd be concerned about getting any bearings, spindles and seals in. In my experience, chrome can interfere quite a bit, even with a simple spindle. When rechroming a front wheel spindle, I specify only the end, otherwise, it doesn't go through the bearings.

I was trying to recall what I had chromed on my 81 Jota:
Rear pegs
Steering stop
Axles, nuts, spacers and washers
Rear brake stay (that looked great)
Swingarm spindle, nuts and washers
Oil cooler fittings
Gear crossover shaft, linkage
Brake linkages
And I think the carb bank brackets
Not with orange paintwork I hope?Pffft..... What ever happened to artistic licence?

You also chromed the oil breather housing. All of the aluminium bits I had to replace last year when I did the rebuild because they were peeling!![]()
Hi!Hi Miguel,
is it interesting for you?

Reinhard was in Breganze 2019 - very nice guy!Hi Miguel,
is it interesting for you?
ok, I see you are on trackHi!
Very nice advertise!! To be honest, I want to totally fix my 500 and I don’t want to hear again this two words together “laverda fivehundred”
I have now three engines on stock, apart from the active engine. I am planing to send one cylinder head to van Dijk or to Keith for total rebuild for the active engine and with the rest I will build a spare “reasonable condition” engine, the rest I will sell (or try to sell) so I think i don’t need to accumulate more spare parts for that bike, despite all when I see those boxes full of spares, I see little treasures…
But thank you very much anyway! For sure it will be very interesting for many forum members!
Some photos of the engine rebuild, today I brought the cylinders for reboring with oversize pistons.
