Classic racing tyres

When I look at Avon?s and Contis I can see a 100/90 front but the smallest rear is 130/90.

I love the way the 100/90F & 120/90R feels but I?d feel better with some stickier rubber.

Hi,
This year I have raced my TT1 replica with AVON 110/80R18 and 150/70R18 ST STORM tread pattern . These are race compound tyres only. In the UK the racing versions of the Storm tyres are only available directly from the factory or through Avon Motorsport dealers such as Dennis Trollope, SMD, etc.

Can I suggest you contact Steve Smith (of Avon tyres)  - SSmith@coopertire.com in this country who may be able to help .
What sizes are available I'm unsure, possibly only these two.

Yes they work very well, well in the dry.

Andy

Ye everyone raves about the Avon and Conti Attack CR but sizes seem to be off. I?d have to go back to 110 and 130 which I?m very reluctant to do.

Try ringing Whites Racing Tyres in Ingleburn in Sydney. He carries lots of options.

So that being the case.. why would you seek to go wider tyres.. in my experience, unless you are making radical frame changes.. like the Redax superbikes.. the Laverda frame is engineered for the smaller profile tyres.. we found at OzLaverda many years ago with the Spaceframe on wider tyres, we may have had more tyre options, but our times were slower..
Stick to the Avons, they are made specifically for purpose, and will stand you well..

Can't you find Bridgestone BT45s over there?
100/90 and 120/90 sizes available.
Or Metzeler Lasertecs?

Are you asking in regards to racing the bike, Carlo? If so then either the AM Avons or the CR Contis are both excellent. I have raced my SF on both, on 110/130 combination, and I can?t understand why you think they are oversize for your Jota on the track, however you have to go with what you are happy riding on.
If you are after road tyres then sticky race rubber is not the way to go from my experience, as until it gets up to temp it can be bloody slippery, as well as wearing the rear square pretty fast. I?m not sure how the selection is in south west Oz, but you can probably get almost anything online now.

Looks like your gunna need wider rims there Carlo. Start looking for a set of early GSXR750 rims. 140 tyre would fit nicely on the 3.5 rear
I have spare a 3.5" astralite that will fit straight onto your cush drive/sprocket. Your welcome to borrow it if you'd like to try a wider rim.
It'll need a new tyre but you'll have tubeless options

The rear brake torque arm lug needs to be removed if fitting GSXR wheels, so a new method of rear caliper mounting is required. I use an underslung floating caliper on mine.

Used to get racing compound Metzelers.
Avons or Contis for the racetrack?

I?m specifically asking for racing use.

The BT45s are actually pretty good at the track but as anyone who races knows, yuu want to be able to push with the confidence of a tyre specifically designed to race as the limits of adhesion are higher.

The AM23 is what I looked at but same deal, they aren?t the size I want, and I?ve already experienced how that feels. Which is why I posted.

If it comes to it I guess I?ll have to go back to 110/130 and hope that the race profile of the Avon will help compensate for the fatter tyre. I?d rather have grip than not.

Thanks for the offer Rob. I need an option where I can switch rims without having to alter anything else - just straight rim swap.

So question is does someone sell replica rims that could be used?

The am23 cantilever is designed for a 2.5 rim, this may work for you, bt45s are not for the track they will overheat and spit you off, gsxr rims are the go

Hi Carlo,
The Astralite should slot straight in, between your sprocket carrier and standard caliper mount as a direct replacement to the standard rim. If that's what you mean.
As Cosi said a set of GSXR rims is the go. The 750 rims are a size smaller 2.5", 3.5" than the 1100 rims, 2.75", 4.0"

Hey Rob would yuu be willing to part with those astralite wheels at an appropriate monetary value?

Hi Carlo, I only have a rear Astralite 3.5". Would rather keep it for my next 750 project but your welcome to borrow it for the season to try out the size. If it's an improvement I'd start looking for a set of GSXR rims. 750s had 3.5", 1100s 4"
