Clutch cush rubbers

I've been talking to a mate, who works in a polyurethane suspension bush factory, about the clutch cush drive rubbers. He reckons, they'd be ideal for the rubber replacement. He knows of a coule of places that do them for the rear wheels of Jappers.

I questioned, the heat and oil, no problem he said, "they use polyurethane for oil seals".

Does anyone have any experience with this, or any suggestions.

As long as they aren't too hard they should be ok and last indefinitely.. can't see it would be any different than putting polyurethane bushes in car suspension joints as replacement for rubber ones.. as long as the 'squish' rating is the same they should be ideal..

The material may be ok but the rubbers (polyurethanes?) would need to be moulded, extruded or machined due to the irregular shape of the centre post which would make them expensive for small batches. Generaly poly bushes are fitted to car suspensions to eliminate the compliance that rubber has and sharpen up the handling, the point of the cush drive is to have a little compliance to soften the shocks running through the drivetrain so I would take care with choosing the grade of polyurethane. Cush rubbers are readily available from people who have already gone to the trouble and expence of having moulds made although they do not seem to last as well as the factory fit originals.
