Connecting the regulator

The wiring on my 79 triple has been modified seemingly many times, without any continuity of colour and without conformance to the original design.  Sorting out even small issues has been a nightmare and I?ve decided to return it to the original scheme for easier future maintenance.
Electronics is not my strong suit and I?m a simple slave to a wiring diagram. This is probably the first of a number of questions I?ll have over the next week or so.
The regulator wires on the bike don?t conform to the colour pattern in my wiring diagram.  There are 5 wires. They are
1.black\yellow,
2.yellow
3.yellow
4. Brown
5. white\orange
According to my Laverda diagram there should be
Black to brake light switch
Red/blue to tacho charge light
White to fuse 4 (power)
Yellow to stator
Yellow to stator
Green to earth
I bought a new regulator, supposedly for a Laverda triple, but it has a different colour set again so I?m trying to work with the existing one in the bike.  If I connect both the yellows to the stator, then I have to guess where to connect the brown, black/yellow and orange/white wires. I suppose brown will be earth. Will it matter then which way I connect the bk/y and o/wh (to either the blue/red and black wires that are still in the loom but have been terminated near the regulator)?
Thanks
Chris

As an addendum, there should be six wires going into the regulator. The one that has been orphaned is the blue and red one that reports to the charging light in the tacho. Is there somewhere else I can connect this wire at the. regulator end to have the light monitoring correctly?
Cheers
Chris

start by buying a new loom and go from there.

Original Bosch regulators are no longer available, so the one you will have is very likely to be a an aftermarket part, so colours will vary excepting that the two generator phases are yellow. They are available with charging light capability and without, strangely most Laverda dealers sell the (very slightly) cheaper one without charging light capability?????

Would help if you could give a part number from the reg/rect. to cross check
But colours seems to match Japanese (Kawasaki) convention
1.black\yellow  ..... battery negative
2.yellow .... alternator
3.yellow ..... alternator
4. Brown ..... voltage sense (+12v with ignition on)
5. white\orange ...think this is white/red? - if so, battery positive

It is rare to find a reg/rect with the necessary warning light feed.  The only one I'm aware of is the Electrex RR51

this Shindengen regulator seems to have six wires... suitable to drive a charging light?

It's actually a five wire connection and doesn't support a charging light...and total overkill for the job in hand!

Thanks to everyone who responded. There aren't any part numbers or even manufacturer's details on the regulator, but a good guess it's a kawasaki part and I'll try it with that schema. Again, thanks.

That's a single phase RR. A while back I tried to find a 3-phase RR with charge light feed, without success. If anyone is aware of such an animal, please let us know.

Boyer Branden Power Box three phase with charging light negative earth - 6 wire. Works well on the Hesketh. Not tried one on a Laverda. Product code - PB0X00106

I haven't found a compatible regulator with a charge-light feed but I'm looking at one of the solutions for the charge light offered by Graham Blighe at improvingclassicmotorcycles.com. Have to pull the tacho off and take some measurements (unless someone here has one on the bench at the moment.) Need to know the diameter of the charge light entry hole and depth back to the shell.
The hole needs to be 14mm and depth at least 44mm for his LED solution.

Chris, I have used the Standard Charge Light set up on my 1974 3C, it works very well and I'd recommend this as the way to go. You should already have a charge light bulb in the ND clock and the feed wire is probably not connected to anything within the headlight. The charge light kit is straight forward to fit, only 3 wires, an earth, a switched positive connection and the third wire to your feed for the charge light.
If you like, just PM me your email address and I will send you a short video clip of it working on the 3C.
