Crank Type 1969 'S'

Most early S's I have come across had the heavy GT crank.  A couple had the lighter SF type, but 40 years on, you never know what's been going on around the bike.

Don't have an appropriate parts manual to verify, somebody may be able to look it up....

Hi Norman,

As Piet says, if original, should have GT type crank, and with stepped crankpins.
A lot of things can have happened in over 40 years but again, they're so reliable, I imagine you'll find plenty of original cranks in unsplit crankcases.

I don't know about a 1969 Laverda 750S, but I have overhauled two 1968 and two 1969 American Eagle 750S motors and all had the very heavy GT crankshaft. None of them needed the crank to be rebuilt or any bearing to be replaced other than the cam bearings which all had corrosion.

Thanks for the prompt replies - the bike came with 2 part engines with 1 of each crank - both cranks I have need work, so I'll get the heavy one repaired and use that as that will be most correct. I'd naively thought that anything 750 with an S had the light crank and anything with a G used the heavy, a chance comment by Stevio made me check this assumption.
