DMC/2 750 no spark

i'm baffled

an older install on SF2 (not mine) was running nice last week
went to ride it this morning and nada
11.7V when cranking

checked circuits:
good ground to battery from DMC
12V+ at DMC with key on
back probed with DVOM from pickup side of amp connector to back of DMC
good continuity
checked circuit from each coil to DMC, all good
12V+ at coil with key on

sprayed elec contact cleaner on optical pickup
(maybe there was an oil film)

no difference

went through std setup procedure at 0 position
no sparks at all

pulled a DMC/2 750 unit of unknown history from a box of spares
still no spark

either i've a couple dead boxes or
a dead photo pickup

any one advise me how to test one?

cheers,
scott
(would rather have been riding)

well shit
i found it
a ground connector with only two strands of wire keeping it together
just enough to fool the DVOM but not enough to make a good connection
all works as it should

'bout time to go feed the animals and think about a ride in the relative cool of the morning

Sometimes electrical gremlins can have us scratching our heads for ages. I've had similar problems where everything tests OK with a meter, but the circuit breaks down under load conditions. Well done sorting it before anyone else had a chance to comment!  :D

If you want relative cool, come to Tasmania. We're well into winter now. Still OK riding weather but you need your winter clothing.

Cheers,
Cam
