DMC II curve setting

Out of interest, what is the most common curve setting used?
I have been running curve#2 since installation coming on 15 or so years ago and just wondering if there is a better curve for general riding.

Yes, an RGS. Unfortunately not made of money, the DMC II has been trouble free since installation, just wondering out loud which curve people are using.

10 works for me. Not sure why you'd want to leave it on 2 which mimics the original ignition 'curve', apart from getting rid of the 2800 rpm stutters.

Well that?s a bit disappointing: 160 views and only one constructive comment. Got a better response from another site. Curve #10 looks the go.

Lack of response might be, don't know, don't have that ignition, don't muck with this, don't know how to type or too shy to respond. And typically I don't qualify for any of these and it did stop me from being unhelpful. Half the questions I post I have a good idea of the answer but it always helps to generate some discussion and I always learn something work knowing. Maybe a bit less than half even. BTW if you are worried someone will let rip if you post something dumb don't be, its all good so go at it.

G'day Vince, done my share of asking dumb question but I think my inquiry was straightforward. There must be a few on the forum that are running Moto Witt DMCII ignitions on their RGS, just a simple question that may be considered below level of interest.

There's probably a bunch of people who don't know what curve their ignition is running. I used to have a Moto Witt on my Jota, but I couldn't tell you what curve it was on. I don't think I ever checked.

It is nice to get a response, even if it doesn't answer the question.
Makes you wonder if you have a personal hygiene problem ::)

I can't comment or answer that one  :D

When i first got my Laverda,i used the search function a lot on this forum and it came up with a lot of useful information to help me work my way around this new Italian masterpiece of engineering.........One thing i did learn along the way (as recommended) was not to run a Jota on DMC setting 5 and possibly 7,.....anyway guess what number mine was set at?????

5!..........Changed to 10 and been there ever since.

got me wondering what each "curve" does by way of ignition advance. I know I had a printout of all the curves some years ago, just spent half an hour unsuccessfully trying to find it. Then searched the forum, came up with this, with lots of info and links to more, but still did not find info on the actual curves

does anyone have the detail on the curves? If so, could you post them, thanks!

Lifted via camera from my german manual, at least you might get an idea of it, Paul.

Hi Terry, when I had my SFC1000 I was running it on curve10, this was after consulting Wolfgang. Bike ran great and never gave me any trouble. It currently lives in Gippsland and has very happy owner who use?s it as the factory intended😀.

So just curious, for those who understand and study these graphs what would be the performance difference if any from going say from curve 10 to either 9 or 11?

Just wondered if I missing out on anything?

Horses for courses.... try a few different curves, ya not gunna kill the bike ! Every bike has a different state of tune and your bike will like one curve over another.
If you doing a lot of Autobarn running keep max advance down

When ya find a nice curve that you and the bike like..... take it to a Dyno to double check that it?s all tickety boo  8)

Tezz, ya might kick the monster to the back corner of the shed on the back of trying curve 10  ;)

Probably just a loss of power if you depart from the optimum curve. Although other effects could be increased fuel consumption, pinking or higher engine temperature.

I was looking at the ECU maps in my Benelli Tre-K the other day. There are 2 selectable maps. One is for maximum performance and the other supposedly gives softer response for better traction on wet roads, etc. They both have identical fuel mapping, with the only difference between them being ignition timing. The max power map having more advance throughout the range.

Just catching up  now. I run curve 10 on my RGS Corsa. As I recall 30 degree advance was the safe maximum and 10 provided the smoothest curve.  Wolfgang told me to start there, it runs good so I left it there.  My hearing is pretty bad so  it sure I would hear any pinking that may occur at other settings.
