Dodgy horns

Morning chums, wondering if anyone can help me out here. Usual pair of voxbells, had the grilles re chromed last year ( C.E.D. excellent) since then whenever I'm out for a spin I'm getting rather feeble horns. At rest they are exceedingly loud but once under way it's a different story. The little return spring on the horn button has given up the ghost so I've shortened a ball point jobby to fit. I've cleaned the switch out several times. Also put new spade connectors for the horn connections. The earth wire from the switch body is ok.I don't have any spares to try so I'm a bit stuck. Any ideas? Many thanks .Stuart. PS I'm on nights at the moment so if I don't reply during daylight hours it's because I'm unconscious!

Hello Emma (well, that's the name on the email address in your profile)

Incidentally, while on the subject of profiles, it would be useful if folks could put some indication of their location on their profile. I had to google CED Chrome to learn it's in UK. Your reference to being on night shift doesn't mean much on an international forum.

Anyway, in relation  to the horns, have you tried tuning them with the little screw on the back?

Being loud at rest but not while riding might be because you're wearing a helmet while riding  :D
OK, seriously, it may have something to do with vibration. When my horns get a bit asthmatic, it's usually because vibration has loosened the spade connectors. I squeeze the female connector with pliers to tighten it and all's well for a couple of months. It needs doing on a regular basis. Maybe I should just solder the buggers.

Yup concur with Dellortoma...had to do this yesterday just before MOT. Interesting bikes in the Slipsteam garage, from Z1300, rd350, Suzuki super six.

Apologies for not putting where I am etc, didn't even know I had a profile! I remain a fully paid up Luddite without a PC, this is a works jobby. I did wonder about vibration and the tone adjuster on the back. I've squeezed the female spades to ensure a good fit so maybe I will be look at the adjusters next. Oh yes, Emma is my daughter, I use her PC as well!  ;) Stuart

Get out a do some excersize man!

I've been going to the gym for 3 years now, and because of that I stopped taking Viagra 2.5 years ago.

Both these have solved my dodgy horn issues.  :P
