Who makes the best electronic ignition kit for the 750 SF?
Able to be adapted to fire at funny places and adjustable timing curves?

Regards,
Julian

that sounds like you want an ignitech

knowing the way you suffer from specification creep you'll have it programmed to put the kettle on as you approach home so there's a cuppa waiting for you

The Ignitech is not really a kit Julian, but probably what fits your needs the best.

The control box is fully programmable with the supplied software, a cinch to use, even for me. :D

All you need to do is make up your own pick-up base plate and rotor which won't pose too much of a challenge for you.  Ignitech can supply generic pick-ups as well, just about anything you might require...

Julian,
As you know I am building the rephased twins so I asked Volker Sachse for some custom systems.
He made me;
3 x 270 degree systems  ( includes 1 x spare system )
2 x 284 degree systems  ( includes 1 x spare system )
had them heading my way within 7 days, arrived here couple of weeks ago but I'm still waiting on the cranks to be balanced

so if you need either a 270, 284 or a 360 for a Laverda 750 SF/1/2/3 I have them in stock.
if you want a different crank phase then ask Volker direct, he'll slap you one up and cost is nearly the same as the standard set up

Thanks for the answers guys!

The Sachs one looks best for my purposed use I think.

Although the ignitach one looks interesting I don't like the idea of having a throttle potentiometer,  I want all mechanical things to look 1970s period so potentiometers etc are out.

Many thanks for your helpful replies!

On Ignitech there is no potentiometer anywhere. It is just a programmable ignition unit (one box). The potentiometer on throttle mechanism is a special setup by Scuderia Laverda Finlandia to include MAP/TPS?

Hi Julian,

if you want to "play around" with different setups, the Ignitech offers the most flexible solution. Also, it is by far the least costy one considering the fact that you can make up your own rotor and base-plate . You can hide it anywhere (best somewhere where water does not go to due to the Serial plug) so it does not spoil the 70's look. However, you will need to set up your own ignition curve, which is easy to do if you f.e. take some samples from the web... Have done it before for a friends RGS, worked just great.

Volker Sachse's ignition is a bolt-on device and works great, too, I am sure. However, you are limited to the curves programmed or need to send the unit in if you want to change something. Volker is very helpful on this though I was told, so - up to you.

The product with the longest experience and the most installed units in Laverdas worldwide I would say is the DMC (Moto Witt), which I installed in 3 bikes and have had 2 others where it was already installed. DMC1 in my Jota works faultlessly since over 20 years and roughly 50.000Km, DMC2 in my 1000 SFC works since roughly 12 years faultlessly (roughly 25.000Km).

there are many other systems, too, that could be adopted. I even had someone fit 2 Ignition units (!!) to a 180? Triple that were originally designed for remote controlled airplane models...  :o

After I checked that the maximum advance was 21? though, he started thinking of maybe change to a different system...  :D (still could be fixed with some more base-advance maybe, as it had a base of 0?...)

so - up to you to decide now...!  ;)

Thanks for the suggestions guys!  Very interesting.

I was going to stick with the points but then thought, what the hell, why not tailor the ignition a bit for all the mods I'm doing.
Probably going for the Sachs though, nearest and easiest. Will see how it works. It looks quite nice.

Am sure you will all be there if it goes pair shaped  :P
