Electrickery Rust/Corrosion Removal

Hey All

I was watching Cafe Racer ..........  :-[ on TV and noted a technique that was used for derusting an old fuel tank.

So I did some research.

Here is the theory.

Not tried it myself but thought it may be of interest.

I haven't done it to a tank, although I'd thought of it, but I made a special bucket* to de-rust stuff and it works great. I still have on old spoke that I used as a test part and it is still rust free - it almost seems like there is a coating on it...probably 5 years later

* 5 gallon plastic bucket with  thin sheet metal rolled to fit the inside and welded together, full depth, to act as the electrode ( or is it cathode?) I always have to look up which way the battery charger polarity gets hooked up... one end is clipped to the roll and the other to the part.

I have to look it up too MotoV.
I like to use molasses. Got a tub here with half a dozen dead cane toads in it.

Leave your part there for a couple of weeks, comes out like new. When doing painted stuff, I use electrolisis, paint comes off too, cause molassis won't remove paint. 1 part molassis to 4 parts water, works for 12 months or so.

I used to add cane toads,  but I didn't like the sheen, not to mention the expense of getting a proper cane toad. The electrolysis works overnight and often the toads ...ok, enough with the toads...
